Client Background:

Metalwork Solutions (MSL) & Direct Assembly Solutions (DASL) provide metalwork fabrication and electronics assembly to B2B clients. They are based in premises in Exeter, Devon and both companies are housed under one roof. The business provides a unique skill mix and they can deliver solutions ranging from initial design, through to sourcing and fabrication, to PCB assembly, cable forms, electro-mechanical assembly, software uploads and testing, even packaging and arranging distribution if required.

The business offers a fast turnaround business model, which can work in partnership with clients to deliver the help and support they might require getting products to market, on time, in full, at the quality and price points needed.

Overview:

Adrian requested a meeting to discuss and review how MSL & DASL utilised IT throughout the business. One of the main considerations was to move critical data to network attached storage (NAS) or a dedicated server. Following the initial consultation with an IT Champion engineer, a meeting was arranged to outline the pros and cons of a server versus a NAS solution, from a cost and operational perspective. After considering the presented options Adrian decided to ask IT Champion to quote for a dedicated server to be deployed. IT Champion put forward HP ML30 G9 server hardware, running Windows Server 2016 and a Hyper-V virtualised host.

Description:

An IT Champion engineer was booked to deploy the new server during the working week and cause minimal disruption to the business. The server was installed and configured, which included setting up user accounts and migrating data to the server from across the business. Additionally, a local backup schedule was configured, which was combined with a Microsoft Azure cloud backup strategy to ensure a copy of critical data is stored offsite. The project was a great success and was delivered on time and to budget.
